I’ve just been reading a fascinating book called “Supertrends” published by Wiley in 2010. The book is about how the world is likely to change in the period to 2050. It is written by Lars Tvede who is a former derivatives trader, portfolio manager and investment banker. He has an interesting and refreshingly optimistic view of the future.
The book covers important issues such as demographics, environmental and resource strain, the behaviour of property markets, economic cycles, energy markets and female emancipation. It should be of interest to anyone involved in planning and forecasting. There is little explicit discussion of transport issues, but many of the topics covered have profound implications for transport planning.
This book is thoroughly recommended reading and if you can catch an interview with this chap on the TV or radio that should be thought-provoking and entertaining too !
